Living with an old Ford Ikon in Delhi: A few running repair updates

A few repairs have been carried out since the last update.

Update:

Green car in a green world:

With the latest change in laws, there is yet another hurdle in the Ikon’s path: It can no longer get fuel. However, with some ingenuity and a little help from younger siblings (Ertiga, Hycross, Merc), that hurdle isn’t insurmountable :

A few repairs have been carried out since the last update. The clearance between the front suspension top bolts and the apron had increased. This was traced down to failed Shock mounts. They were replaced with new ones on both sides and the ride height got restored:

I also noticed that when the throttle was being pressed, the engine was moving a lot more than usual. This was traced to a broken engine mounting. A replacement was found, but not a Ford original, unfortunately. It is a locally made one, but has managed to control the vibrations quite well.

This wasn’t an easy job to do at home without proper equipment, but my mechanic used his ingenuity and improvised. The engine was was supported using the Ertiga’s jack and the mount was removed:

The mount that came off the car. I was surprised to see that it had literally sheared off into two halves! Can’t believe the engine hadn’t fallen off:

Shiny new one. Not a Ford Original, but then this is all that’s available:

Also got the oil and filter changed. Air filter was good for another hundred thousand years, so didn’t replace that. Also got some coolant topped up.
